Skill analysis

my volleyball analysis

Here is my analysis for volley it shows where my strengths and areas which i need to improve such as my communication. When playing I do not shout for the ball to tell my team that i am going to set or smash, because i did not call for it other players went to the ball too which then areas of the court is open and if the set was not accurate then there's no one to set it back again.

However, my positioning on the court is always in the correct space that i need to make sure i protect so if the ball was to come towards me then i would be able to set it do a spiker or for someone else to set, this did work very well whilst we were playing in a team as we then could all stay in our position.

3 Volley ball drills attacking

Line Hitting drill:
Here is our first drill which we set up, it is simply a hitting drill which gets passed to other players. This helps them getting into a rhythm setting up the shot down the line. It works with 3 players on both side of the court which are setters, defenders and a hitter. This drill should set off by the coach giving them a ball and simply starting off with setter who will pass it onto the hitter who would be standing closer to the net down the line to the next hitter on the opposite side of the court. After wards, once they have got into a rhythm they can play against each other to make it as if it was an actual game situation and switch positions to get range of hitting distances.

Spiking/ Digging Drill:

In this Drill we are focusing on digging, setting and returning a controlled ball to their partner on the other side of the net. Simply just stand either side of the net and stand the same distance apart. One player would start off by hitting the ball downward flight afterwards the second player would dig the whilst setting it to themselves so that the oposite player is able to do the same actions. They can increase their ability by changing the distance so that they have to do a more powerful dig or downward flight. The players and coachs must make sure that they are :
1. Digging with the corret technique
2.Setting with the corret technique
3.Spiking with the correct technique

Serving Drills:

Finally, we finished off with a serving drill. We would have one player on one side of the net who would set the ball and on the other we would have  3 + players sitting in a space and the aim of the server is to hi the ball inbetween the players. This would help the player by starting with the advantge by hitting the ball and landing in a space which would gain with point. We makde sure we did the corret serving technique so that we had an accurate hit into a space.

Volley Ball Drills x4 defending

Volleyball Drills :

Overhead set-

This is a simple drill that athletes can do wherever at any time. The setter begins to throw he ball up and begins to set it making sure it's above your partners head so it's an accurate hit. This drill practices several things: vertical setting, proper setting, technique and consistency.

Passing Drill-

Firstly  you can get a partner and stand opposite each other and volley the ball between you, practicing different passes.
Also, you could get a team of 3-6 players on each side of the net and simply pass the ball around on one half of the court. To progress each team can rally to each other using the whole court using different techniques and practice your movement when passing the ball among-st your team.

Target Drill-

You set up five cones on one side of the net with any number of players. You have a setter that will set the ball up for you and then you are able to shout out which cone you are aiming to hit, the player with the most points wins. This will help players with their accuracy.

Blocking Drill- defending drill

You have players round the court and have a feeder with about 3 blockers on each side of the net. The server then purposely passes the ball close over the net so the blocker can easily get to it and practice letting the other team gain a point.

volleyball warm up

Volleyball-

      1. Bull in play right back position, using an underhand or overhand serve.
  • 2. Serve must go over the net within the court boundaries on the other side.
  • 3. The ball can only be played with 3 touches, 'per team', 'per play'.
  • 4. The ball may not hot 2 times in a row by any one player.
  • 5. Only front row players are allowed to contact the ball above the net with intention to attack.
  • 6. if the serving team loses the serve the other team obtains services and a point.
  • 7. A ball that lands on the boundary line is considered 'in'.
  • 8.For every side out made, the team is awarded the serve must rotate in the clockwise manner.
  • 9. If the ball hits the ceiling and goes over the net, it is a dead ball.
  • 10.In rally scoring, a point is awarded at the end of every play no matter who is serving.
  • 11. Each game is played up to 25 points and the winning team must win by 2 points.
  • 12. The match is a best of 5 contest.

  • We started off by warming up.
  • Firstly, we simply started off with a partner throwing the ball to each other with the correct hand grip and progressed onto a small rally between us.
  • We warmed up are backs by stretching the ball behind us and throwing it to are partners as we use are backs a lot to jump to the ball and sometimes hit low to the ground.
  • Thirdly we started to spike the ball to get more power and finally we did a few serves before getting into a game.

team analysis

As we played through the game we recognised points where we were stronger in such as out serving, we were able to get many point from our servers as they were accurate and was able to get into spaces where we could see the opponent's left. Also, we all made good decisions to set the ball too and when the jump smash which showed in the game.

However, our movement and positioning was not always accurate. At some points we were not sure when to rotate or who was doing what position which left spaces on the court.
